2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley
Napa Cabernet is one of life’s great pleasures. Luscious berry fruit, multi-layered tannins, refined herbal notes and silky texture all combine to transport the taster to the incomparable Napa Valley. The valley is famous for long-lived red wines that offer wave after wave of drinking pleasure. Through our work with vineyard partners in the region, we craft this ‘taste of Napa’ that weaves mountaintop and lower elevation fruit together into an integrated and elegant wine.
About This Wine
Some of the world’s best vineyards dot the hillsides, mountain tops, and lowlands of the Napa Valley. We source our blend from multiple sites throughout the valley to weave a tapestry of rich, ripe, textured fruit framed in a bold structure. The substantial length and enduring finish are testament to the elegance and refinement of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
After tank fermentation using a variety of traditional and modern techniques our valley and hillside Cabernet lots are aged in 100% French oak barrels (blend of 33% new, 25% 1-year, 25% 2-year, and the remaining 17% in 3-year old barrels) for 18 months prior to bottling. An array of coopers, toast levels, and toasting techniques brings layered nuance to the rich fruit and bolsters the tannin framework on this sumptuous wine.
The 2013 vintage in Napa Valley was among the earliest on record. Warm days and gentle breezes during the May bloom period ensured an abundant crop and water availability was sufficient to deter raisining. Most of the Cabernet was harvested by mid-October with only a few parcels at the highest elevations holding out until early November. Perfect weather conditions allowed us the luxury of “calling the picks” at optimal timing with no weather-driven compromises or concerns.
Deep red in color our Atlas Peak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon expresses notes of red cherry, currants and licorice on the nose. Robust and full-bodied with supple tannins and dense blackberry fruit. Flavors of mocha, molasses, blueberry, and pepper dominate with back notes of plum and graphite on the finish. Pair with salt-crusted beef tenderloin, classic rib-eye roast, herbed potatoes, simple sautéed mushrooms with chives, hard cheeses.
